Ellengowan Drive, Dundee
Constructed on behalf of Hillcrest Homes, a regeneration of Ellengowan Drive estate with new-build affordable housing.
Proposals for Ellengowan aimed to preserve and enhance the sense of community of the previous scheme, dating back to the 1920’s, which was no longer fit for purpose. The layout and orientation ensures that nearly every living room has an excellent view to the Tay and Fife hills and the greenery and strong sense of community is retained.
Overall, the £20.5 million redevelopment will offer 130 affordable homes with phase one of 70 homes now complete, providing a mix of amenity housing for elderly residents, mainstream and wheelchair flats, cottage flats and family terraced houses. With the last remaining tenants decanted into phase one, the enabling works can now commence on phase two.
The houses and flats were designed in accordance with “Housing for Varying Needs” and to enable “Secured by Design” accreditation and offers affordable rented accommodation to a wide range of people, from small families to single tenants, the design respects and integrates with the existing area and makes a positive, contemporary contribution to the future vision for housing.
One of the flatted blocks now incorporates the relocated "Kiosk" ensuring a new life for this local landmark.
