Christmas at the Botanics

Visit the Royal botanic gardens of Edinburgh for a magical and festive illuminated trail. Look forward to some together time with family and friends, as you discover sparkling tunnels of light, dancing waterside reflections and trees drenched in jewel-like colour. For a moment of reflection pause at mesmerising flickering flames in the fire garden and gaze up at larger-than-life illuminations.

The crew of talented independent street food vendors will bring a delicious twist to tasty treats on offer. You will be able to complete your walk under the stars with a *spiced winter warmer or *hot chocolate shared with someone special. Visitors can also toast *marshmallows at one of our purpose-built fire pits.

There will be limited capacity with timed entry to Christmas at the Botanics so make sure to plan now to secure the date and time of your choice.

The Magic of Christmas

The Magic of Christmas at Carnegie Hall is a collaborative event with Pitlochry Festival Theatre and is brimming with story, music, and surprise! This seasonal treat will enchant wee ones at Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall.

The experience begins in the foyer of Carnegie Hall, which will be transformed into a winter wonderland. Then it’s on to our auditorium for the screening of a festive adventure, following elves on a mission to find the North Star. After the screening, go on a Christmas cracker of a journey through the super-sized Advent Calendar and visit Santa in his grotto.

The event runs every weekend from Saturday 4th December until Sunday 19th December. Various times available.

Also the Relaxed ‘Magic of Christmas’ Experience.

They have slightly changed the experience to make it more comfortable for people with sensory, communication or developmental differences on two dates and times (4th Dec at 7pm and 12th Dec at 12.30pm).

The ‘relaxed’ shows allow for people to make noises, move, and come and go from their seats freely. These shows are designed to improve the experience for people with dementia, anxiety, Tourette’s, bowel and bladder conditions, an autism spectrum condition, or a learning disability.

Cinderella Pantomime 

The Alhambra Theatre presents the Christmas Panto 'Cinderella' from 15th to 27th December 2021.

The Alhambra Theatre is Dunfermline's beautifully restored venue which is situated right in the heart of the town. This Christmas, why not bring the family to watch this year’s Christmas Pantomime, Cinderella.

Festive Workshop

Dalkeith Country Parks Restoration Yard have the perfect workshop to get both you and your little ones feeling all the festive spirit. Book the kiddos in for a hands-on workshop where they can paint and decorate pre-made clay decorations to take home and display proudly. And for the gown-ups, set your festive spirit free with a beautiful wreath making workshop – using flowers, foliage, and pinecones from the park.

Children’s Workshop - Paint your own Christmas Decoration runs on the 18th and 19th of December, various time slots available. Festive Wreath Making Workshops is running weekends between Saturday 27th November and Sunday 5th December with various time slots available.

Edinburgh Christmas Festival 

The Edinburgh Christmas Festival attracted an official attendance of 2.6 million people in 2019, with people travelling from across Scotland to experience the festive rides and delights in the heart of the Capital. The Edinburgh Christmas market will open from November 20 and will remain in place until shortly after the new year, ending on January 2, 2022.

The Edinburgh Christmas market will be taking up its usual space in the heart of East Princes Street Gardens, where it will be hosting an array of market stalls, rides, and bars as it has done for many years however, this year it will now also stretch out over West Princes Street Gardens and George Street between Castle Street and Charlotte Square.

As well as a new ice rink, visitors can expect to be met with a large variety of stalls, fairground rides and attractions including the familiar Big Wheel making its return to the East Princes Street Gardens spot, as well as the star flyer beside the Walter Scott Monument.

There will be 62 stalls and four attractions in East Princes Street Gardens, with 15 stall concessions and 11 attractions in the westerly gardens.

All of these events will make sure you have a Christmas to remember!
