If you are looking for inspiration on great days out with kids in Scotland, you have come to the right place.

There are so many child-friendly places to go across Scotland. Luckily all of our homes are located in the gorgeous region of Fife, which is central to much of Scotland so a great start to any fun day out with the kids.

Dundee Science Centre

Dundee Science Centre is one of the UK’s biggest science centres with over 80 interactive exhibits that will delight and puzzle kids.

If your kids think science is a bit boring, this is definitely the place to prove them wrong – the centre’s team of science communicators bring science to life in many imaginative ways. Try keyhole surgery, plan a trip to Mars or even solve a crime.  It truly is a fantastic place to immerse the whole family in the world of science.

Jacobite Steam Train

Harry Potter fans will have all their wishes granted when they step onto the Jacobite Steam Train, made famous as the locomotive that whisks students off to Hogwarts. The whole family will be amazed at the stunning views as you pass over the Glenfinnan Viaduct and arrive next to the magnificent Loch Nevis, Europe’s deepest seawater loch.

Often counted amongst the greatest railway journeys in the world, this trip is a brilliant way to explore some of Scotland’s hidden gems while having a great day out with the kids.

St Andrews Aquarium

Here is one for the animal lovers… St Andrews Aquarium offers families a fabulously fishy day out. Located on one of the finest coastal locations in the historic town of St Andrews, the aquarium transports visitors to an underwater world of wonder.

Kids will love the funny looking fish, scary sharks, mischievous meerkats and super-cute seals and there is even the chance to feed some of the animals. Reptiles can also be handled at set times each day guaranteeing a day out that the kids will not be forgetting anytime soon!

Landmark Forest Adventure Park

On the lookout for a big family adventure? Look no further than Landmark Forest Adventure Park. It provides one of the best days out with kids in Scotland featuring an amazing range of activities including the new dinosaur kingdom where kids can get up close with 22 terrifying dinosaurs.

With a butterfly house, ancient forest walk, treetop trail and runaway train roller coaster there is so much to keep both little ones and adults entertained all day. The beautiful Highlands setting and the chance to see rare red squirrels and other Scottish wildlife makes this a must-visit for lovers of the outdoors in particular.

The Helix

Lots of people do not realise that The Helix in Falkirk is home to much more than just The Kelpies sculptures – the Adventure Zone and Splash Play areas will provide kids with endless hours of fun. The splash play area is perfect for cooling off on hot summer days while the play park is ideal for adventurous kids no matter the weather.

If you need to refuel after all that adventuring there is even a café nearby where you can enjoy a tasty lunch or treat the family to ice cream.

Edinburgh Fringe

Experience a whole host of family-friendly activities at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the highly popular comedy, music and arts festival which takes place every August.
