How to host the best ever family Easter
Easter is one of our favourite times of year. There is a freshness in the air, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and of course, it is the perfect excuse to spend time together as a family.
How will you spend Easter with the family this year? Perhaps you will be hosting in-laws, uncles, aunts and a team of cousins, or maybe it will be a smaller family affair. However you choose to spend your Easter, going the extra mile to make it special will provide you with some very special memories for years to come.
To help you host the very best family Easter, we have put together a list of Easter essentials. Food, fun and family time – what could be better?
To make the most of this special day, start early. Set up a delicious family breakfast – something out of the ordinary to set the tone for the rest of the day.
We love serving up soft boiled eggs and soldiers, hot cross buns and fresh fruits, and of course, copious amounts of coffee – there is a big day ahead after all!
Easter egg hunt
An Easter staple, and one of our favourites – why not arrange an egg hunt? Hide chocolate or wooden eggs which can be exchanged for prizes around the house and garden. Egg hunts are not reserved for little ones – everyone from toddlers to grandparents can get involved.
If you have young family members of different ages with you over the Easter break, avoid temper tantrums by hiding different kinds of eggs for different age groups. You could make one set easier to find for really little ones by placing them in obvious places like living room corners or garden lawns. Hide a different set of eggs in trickier locations to give older children more of a challenge. That way, no one will be empty handed – and the day will be a lot more relaxing for the adults!
Breakfast may have filled you up, but that does not mean that you cannot still have an Easter feast later in the day. Classic Easter meals involve Sunday roasts or large sides of salmon, but you can always sway from tradition by experimenting with different recipes. We think the suggestion of a posh lamb balti or a giant butter bean stew from BBC Good Food sounds delicious.
Make the Easter meal extra special by setting the table with seasonal decorations. We love big bold centrepieces and crockery with a splash of colour – how about you?
Crack open the games cupboard (and possibly a bottle of fizz for the adults) and have a great time together playing a family board game. Will you try a game you have never played before, or stick to family favourites? We really enjoy Articulate (although you might want to steer clear of this one if you have some very competitive family members in your midst).
There is nothing like a brisk walk to get you feeling refreshed, is there? Lots of families will be out in force over the Easter break.
If you live in Fife, we have some fantastic family walking route suggestions – take a look at the best beach suggestions, and our guide to the Fife coastal path. If a four-legged family member will be joining you, learn more about the best dog walks in Fife.
After taking part in all of these many activities, you will no doubt be in need of a good rest. Cuddle up on the sofa and chill out as a family. There is always something good on TV around Easter time, so pop your feet up and relax – you have earned it, after all.
